Join Future Harvest CASA and Chesapeake CRAFT for a field day focused on pasture-raised pork production. Whitmore Farm is a 28-acre historic farm that produces pastured pork, eggs, and lamb. This event will include a farm tour, information about the intricacies of breeding, farrowing, nutrition, and management of heritage hogs on pasture, and end with a potluck dinner at the farm.

Whitmore Farm uses rotational grazing to raise Gloucester Old Spot and Tamworth hogs, Katahdin sheep, and four different heritage breeds of laying hens. Whitmore Farm sells its products at farmers markets in Washington DC, and to restaurants in the DC/Baltimore area. In addition to its pork operation, participants will see Whitmore’s chick hatchery operation and sheep breeding program, which uses data collection and statistical analysis to select for optimal performance. For biosecurity reasons, we ask that you wear clothes and shoes that you wouldn’t normally wear when working with your own animals on your farm. Please bring a dish to share for the potluck dinner.

This event is free to Chesapeake CRAFT members, but we do ask that CRAFT members register for the event – or consider becoming a member of Future Harvest CASA to receive discounts on other programming.

Register online at www.futureharvestcasa.org/events. Event fees and donations help Future Harvest CASA develop high-quality educational programming for the region's farmers, foodpreneurs, and consumers to learn how to grow and source locally and sustainably.
