Small Farm Workshop Series Open to All, Runs January 31 - April 4, 2012 The classroom workshop series, Starting a Small Intensive Commercial Farm for Local Markets, is presented at the Baltimore County University of Maryland Extension office. This series is organized in partnership with Baltimore County Extension. It is required for Beginner Farmer Training Program participants, but is open to anyone interested in small farm topics. Enrollment is $40 for the full 9-part series; there is no proration for taking fewer classes. Click here for the full schedule and registration information. Successful Transitions White Paper Released (posted January 11, 2012) Read the Successful Transitions: from Apprentice to Farmer, a white paper on the challenges of beginner farmers, and the needs to be addressed by training programs in the Chesapeake Region, developed with grant funding through North County Preservation. Click Here for the Appendices I and II and details on the survey and responses. The White Paper is a study of best in class beginner farmer training programs around the country. The goal is to identify tools, resources, and processes that have been most effective in transitioning apprentices onto land and into successful farm operators, and to provide recommendations for how to implement these solutions in support of our region's existing training programs.
