Successful Transitions

Successful Transitions: From Apprentice to Farmer

Future Harvest CASA compiled this White Paper in 2011 on the challenges of beginner farmers, and the needs to be addressed by training programs in the Chesapeake Region, developed with grant funding through North County Preservation.

The White Paper is a study of best in class beginner farmer training programs around the country. The goal is to identify tools, resources, and processes that have been most effective in transitioning apprentices onto land and into successful farm operators, and to provide recommendations for how to implement these solutions in support of our region's existing training programs

Read the Successful Transitions White Paper along with its Appendices I and II and details on the survey and responses.

Amazing Grazing

Amazing Grazing coverThe pastures of Chesapeake region farms are home to increasing numbers of livestock animals being raised the “new” old-fashioned way—outdoors, exercising naturally, and grazing on grass the way nature intended.  The Amazing Grazing directory will help you find local sources for steaks, ground beef, leg of lamb, sausage, bacon, eggs, smoked hams, handmade cheeses, goats’ milk fudge, cheese-stuffed pasta, Thanksgiving turkeys, Christmas geese, and more—all fresh from the pasture and direct from the farmer to you!

You can view a pdf of the directory, visit our searchable database (which is updated to include the latest information), or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it by mail.
