Laurie Savage is the administrative assistant and grants manager for Future Harvest. She grew up on a dairy farm in Frederick County, where she served in such roles as Maryland Dairy Princess and Maryland Jersey Queen. As a "reverse transplant," she married Kevin, a dairy farmer, and moved to Montgomery County, where her family milks about 100 head of Holsteins, Jerseys and Ayrshires. She has two children, Catherine, a student at Virginia Tech who also raises Boer goats, and James, an active 4-H'er who also raises beef cattle and market swine. The family owns and operates Savage Equine Services, LLC, serving the horse industry. Laurie is a freelance writer and has also done administrative work for the Maryland Dairy Industry Association, Maryland Holstein Association and Maryland Dairy Princess Association. Following her earlier work as an agvocate for the industry, she serves on the American Dairy Association's Dairy Farmer Speakers Bureau and presents to community service groups and high school culinary classes. She holds a bachelor's degree in agriculture economics from the University of Maryland.
